Thank you to all who made it to the LP8 conference on Monday morning. If you were unable to make it, please see me this week to sign your LP8 calendar and two permission slips. I need these ASAP as our next field trip (the KZM Science Festival) is coming soon....Thursday, May 8 from 11am- 1pm. We still need another driver or two for next week. Please let me know if you can help. Thank you.
This week in ELA we are working with contractions ('re, 've, 'd, 'll), irregular contractions (don't, won't), homophones, and comparing and contrasting. In Math we are learning about rows, columns, and arrays as well as learning about equal parts of circles and rectangles (halves, thirds, and fourths). In Social Studies we are learning about Mozart, Monet, and Art. In Science we are learning about Technology and doing a fun Terrarium project with Miss Alicia. We continue to work on our handwriting skills in our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks.

Writing Prompt
The overall theme for Unit 6 is “Are traditions and celebrations important in our lives?”, with this week’s theme being “Why are sports traditions important in our country?”. This week we are reading Just Like Josh Gibson, a story about a young girl who admires the famous ballplayer, Josh Gibson. Please help your child think about one of their own sports heroes. Now have them write a story about a character who wants to be like that sport figure. Please remind them to use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
CCCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
CCCSS Language 3- Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.
*Please keep your student at home if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
