Happy Halloween Week! Regarding our November 8th field trip, the online field trip forms have not worked out. I am sending home paper permission slip forms today. Please fill them out regardless of whether or not you filled out an online form. The permission slips and $5 should be turned in by this Wednesday. Thank you!!!
Just a friendly reminder about our school Halloween policies. Students are welcome to come to school in costume and wearing face paint but there are no masks or weapons (or toy weapons) allowed on campus for safety issues. Students should also not bring candy to school. Thank you for your cooperation!
On Wednesday the 31st, we will be having a Halloween parade around our campus just after drop off (around 8:35 or so). After the parade we will take a class photo of the kids in costume. Parents are welcome to stay after drop off and enjoy the parade. The kids are super cute! This would also be a good time to drop off a snack to share for our class party (see below).
We will be having a small class Halloween party near the end of our school day. If you are able, please send in a healthy snack to share with the class. We will enjoy our snack and perhaps watch It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Thanks!
We will be making Stone Soup in our class this coming Thursday, November 1st. If you can, please send in an item for our pot by that Wednesday afternoon at the latest. By Tuesday would be even better so I can prep things at home the night before! Ex- a potato, a can of veggie or chicken broth, an onion, a can of corn, some celery, peas, beans, carrots, etc…We don't need much from each child as the point of the story is about how if everyone gives a little, a lot can be done. The kids always love this activity! :) We will be enjoying our Stone Soup around lunchtime, it goes great with pizza day! Just a reminder that Miss Monica's Dia de los Muertos school wide activity will be in the afternoon before pick up.
This week in ELA we are learning how to figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words, describing characters' feelings, and writing more elaborate sentences. In Math we are working on triple digit addition. In Science we are learning how and why habitats change. In Social Studies we are learning about maps. In Health we are learning about ways to stay healthy. Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Stone Soup. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. We are continuing to work on our PBL (project based learning) entitled Bats Around the World which is an project that hits multiple standards for English, Science, Social Studies, Art, and STEM.

STONE SOUP ACTIVITY!!!
We will be making Stone Soup in our class on Thursday. If you can, please send in an item for our pot by Wednesday afternoon. Tuesday would be even better! Ex- a potato, a can of veggie or chicken broth, an onion, a can of corn, some celery, peas, beans, carrots, etc…Thank you!
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
