Thank you to all of you who helped make our field trip last week a success! The kids really seemed to enjoy the Cajun and Creole music and just the adventure of leaving the campus together. We have also had several parents helping out in the classroom by sharing special activities and projects with the class. Some of our activities have included Yoga, learning about wildflowers and seeds, Christmas Art, Christmas Ornaments, and cooking Tamales. If you have any special traditions or activities you would like to share with the class, please email me and we can set up a time and date for you to come in. I also want to let you know that this week's homework packet also includes the IS for our Winter Break. All the assignments are due back on Monday, January 6th.
This week in ELA we are reading Anansi Goes Fishing, a fable about a spider learning a lesson from a turtle. Our overall theme for this week is "How can creative thinking solve a problem?" This weeks writing activity is to help your student write a fable or folktale in which an animal with a creative idea solves a problem. As this assignment is not due until after Winter Break, the students should write 10-12 sentences in their best handwriting on lined paper. Please help them develop a story with a main idea and supporting details. Other skills in ELA this week include compound words, antonyms, and cause and effect in stories. In Math we are working with line plots and measurement. In Science we are learning about Living Things and How to Be Healthy. In Social Studies we are learning about family traditions and mapping skills. We continue to work with Handwriting Without Tears and we are also working on some fun art projects.

As always, please send your students appropriately for the weather. Students must have boots, snow pants, a coat/jacket, and gloves to be allowed to play in the snow. A hat would also be helpful. All students need to have a water bottle at school as we do not supply any cups. Only half of the class has brought a water bottle in so far. Please check with your child and see if they still have a bottle at school. Thank you.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and a fantastic holiday break!
