Snow again! I can't believe that I'm still hitting chain control this late in April! It's crazy! Please be sure to check the weather for Olympic Valley every morning so that you can send your child to school with the right clothing and coat for the weather of the day. Thank you!
This week in ELA we continue to work on narrative paragraphs about Helen Keller as well as learning all about poetry. We are also learning about rhyme, lines, stanzas, similes, repetition, alliteration, personification, and onomatopoeias. In Math we are working on subtraction with regrouping with a zero in the ones and/or tens place. In Science we are studying land and water. In Social Studies we are learning about goods and services. In Health we are talking about our favorite things and interests and how they may change over time. We have lots of fun science projects going on in our class! We are growing poppies and rainbow carrots and we are observing the life cycles of ladybugs, butterflies, and tadpoles. We have also begun our interdisciplinary unit of study on Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute. Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Old Elm Speaks, a collection of tree poems. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. Spelling List

Writing Assignment
This week we are reading Old Elm Speaks, a collection of tree poems. For this week’s writing assignment, please spend 15 minutes outside observing the world around you. Write about what you notice most. Please write at least 6 sentences and use your best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
iReady Practice
Please login to i Ready. You should see a red button labeled, “start my lessons”. Please complete one Math and one Language Arts lesson. Thank you!
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Your student is welcome to bring slippers to keep in their cubby for when they come in from recess with damp shoes. Please be sure that your child brings a coat or jacket every day now that the snow is here. We go outside for every recess unless there is heavy rain. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
Jenny
