I hope you all had a wonderful Ski/Skate Week! I heard all sorts of exciting stories from the kids today and it was so sweet to see how happy they all were to be together again. Today we welcomed a new student to our classroom! Isis has already made several new friends with us and I am so proud of how our class is always kind and welcoming to others. Our Random Act of Kindness Week before break was a huge success with the kids performing over 300 RAKs around campus!
Next Monday (3/3/14) will be our LP6 conference at 8:15 am in the second grade classroom. Please try to arrive on time and plan on being here for about 10-15 minutes. These meetings are mandatory, please email me if you cannot make the meeting and need to reschedule with me. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are working with the dipthongs "oi" and "oy" and words that have multiple meanings. We are also working with adverbs, plots, themes, summarizing, and narrative poems. In Math we are taking our Unit 4 quiz then moving on to Unit 5 and working with telling time. In Social Studies we are learning about Rights and Responsibilities and in Science we are working with Matter Changes. We continue to work on our handwriting skills with our Handwriting Without Tears workbook.

Writing Prompt
The question of the week is “Why are some changes difficult?” This week we are reading I Like Where I Am, a story about how a boy’s life changes when he moves to a new home. Think about a change that has happened in your life. Now write a poem about it.(*Narrative poems usually have characters, a setting and a theme. They also usually have regular rhyme or rhythm.)
CCCS Writing 4- With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose.
CCCS Writing 5- With guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising an editing.
* I have been informed that the CA Department of Health has issued a statewide severe influenza alert, please keep your student home from school if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the winter weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
