This week we are beginning our iReady testing for Math and English. This first assessment is to get a baseline for growth over the school year. The tests are adaptive and will adjust to your child's level. Once the testing is over, the lessons should be set at the appropriate level for your child's independent work at home. I ask that students complete 1 Math and 1 English iReady lesson online each week. Your child is welcome to do more if you'd like them to do so. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are working on connections between steps, adjectives, and visualizing as we read. In Math we are working on arrays. If you or your child needs a reminder on any of the math skills, you can find math content review videos on our class website at http://jennysclass.weebly.com/content-review-videos.html. In Science we learning about animal groups. In Social Studies we are learning about history and time. In Health we are learning about food groups. Our Rooted in Reading book this week is The Salamander Room by Anne Mazer. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. We are also continuing to work on our first Project Based Learning Activity entitled Snake Search!Spelling List

Writing Assignment
This week’s writing prompt is: “If you could have any pet, what would you pick and why?”. Please have your child write 4-5 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
(CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.)
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
