Tomorrow is a busy day! At 8:35, we have an assembly with all of the classes singing Spanish songs about Spring. We leave for our field trip to Donner Memorial State Park promptly at 9:15. Students should be dressed appropriately for the weather and bring a sack lunch and water bottle. At the park we will watch a movie, visit the museum while filling out a scavenger hunt worksheet, and hike the nature trail. Students and their driver/chaperone must stay together at all times. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are reading tree poems, working on figures of speech (personification, repetition, alliteration, similes, and onomatopoeia), and narrative writing. In Math we are reviewing 1 step word problems. In Science we are talking about changes of states of matter. In Social Studies we are learning about families and trade. In Health we are talking about our favorite things. Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Old Elm Speaks (tree poems). We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. We continue to work on our Project Based Learning unit called Design a Lemonade Stand. We are also continuing our unit on Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute! This is an interdisciplinary unit that includes ELA, Music, Social Studies, and Art. It is always becomes one of the students' favorite units of the year!

Writing Assignment
This week we are reading Old Elm Speaks, a collection of tree poems. For this week’s writing assignment, please spend 15 minutes outside observing the world around you. Write about what you notice most. Please write at least 6 sentences and use your best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
iReady Practice
Please login to i Ready. You should see a red button labeled, “start my lessons”. Please complete one Math and one Language Arts lesson. Thank you!
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
