Thank you to all of you who have already made it in to sign our 2nd semester Master Agreements! I appreciate you taking the time. If you haven't had a chance to sign yet, please swing by the classroom ASAP, I promise it will just take a minute! Thank you!
We have begun our iReady assessments at last! Please do NOT have your student work on iReady lessons at home at this time, I will let you know when they can begin them again. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are comparing and contrasting stories, learning about facts vs. opinions, and working with possessives. In Math we are learning how to compare lengths. In Science we are learning about how to observe weather. In Social Studies we are learning about Federal Laws. In Heath we are talking about the role of a school nurse. Our Rooted in Reading book is Akiak, a Tale from the Iditarod. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. We have also begun work on our new PBL (project based learning) activity entitled A Valentine's Day Party Planner which is a project that hits multiple standards for English, Math, Social Studies, and Art. Our SEL work this week focuses on observing and listening to ourselves and others.

Writing Assignment
This week we read Akiak, a story about a brave dog who goes on an adventure when she is separated from her team while racing in the Iditarod. Write your own adventure story featuring an animal as your main character. Be sure to include a beginning, middle, and end to your story. Please write at least 7 sentences and use your best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
Jenny
