Hello Creekside Families,
Well, I sure wasn’t planning on getting turned around due to snow on HWY 20 today! Our car with the snow tires went into the shop on Monday night for an emergency brake job and our backup car doesn’t have snow tires. We had to unexpectedly put on new all weather tires on our back up car just so we could get to Tahoe yesterday. No snow tires were available and we can’t find chains in our area at this time of year. It's been crazy! Needless to say, I will not be at school today and there will be a sub. If you need to get a hold of the sub or change pick up plans, please call the office. The sub will NOT have access to email. The office number is 581-1036. Today is the last day to turn in your re-enrollment forms to hold your student's place next year at our wonderful school. We are so lucky to have such a happy school family and to be in such a beautiful location! Please send the forms in with your student or drop them by the office and give them to Lynn. Thanks so much! Have a good day! Jenny Hello Creekside Families,
Today is another Snow Day/IS day due to weather concerns. If you have not already done so, please text @ccf6ab to 81010 to sign up for Creekside Push messages on your phone. This is the fastest way to hear from Jeff about school emergencies, snow days, etc... The IS work for today is listed below. Please print it for your child and send the work in once we are back in class together. If you should lose power today or face any other challenges, you can always have your child read (and write about what they have read) and work on math facts (including practicing telling time), simply document their work so that I can be sure they receive academic credit for today. Thank you! This week in Math, we are learning to tell time. Some students may have been introduced to time in 1st grade but I wanted to include a review video just in case. Before completing the Math work, please have your child watch the following math video introducing time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrxZWNu72WI. Reading: Please read and complete the 2 stories and questions for each story. The stories are First Plane Trip and Superhero Joey. (The answer sheets are included if you would like to check your students work.) Grammar: Please complete the 2 Grammar activities on Contractions and Possessive Nouns. (These are quite short.) Math: Watch the video (The link is above) and complete the 2 time worksheets. (These are fairly short.) Also, please have your student read for at least 20 minutes and have them write the author, title, and a brief summary of the story in their best handwriting on lined paper. Please remember too that your child can always do their personalized iReady lessons online for additional practice. Thank you! I hope you are all staying safe and warm up there! We have a few inches of snow on the ground here in Grass Valley, the dogs are loving it! Take care! Jenny Hello Creekside Families,
Today the kids had an opportunity to paint their bowls for the Souper Bowl event. Please send in your $ and forms for the bowls if you haven't done so already. You can also pay online on the Creekside PTO website. Kids who were absent will get another chance to paint their bowls, likely sometime next week. This week in ELA we are beginning our writing unit on writing informational paragraphs, learning about illustrations, and working with comparison verbs. In Math we are learning to tell and write time. In Science we are learning about forces. In Social Studies we are learning about consequences. In Health we are talking about change. Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Me...Jane. This book is about Jane Goodall as a child. In addition to learning about Dr. Goodall, we will also be learning about chimpanzees. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. Spelling List (words with kn, wr, gn, mb) knock sign knee wrong write climb wrap wren gnat lamb comb knob (Spelling tests are given on the following Monday.) Writing Assignment This week we are learning about Jane Goodall, a scientist that has dedicated her life to studying and saving chimpanzees. Write about an endangered animal of your choice and tell me why they are endangered and how we can help save them. Don’t forget to tell me why you chose that particular animal. Write at least 6 sentences and use your best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you. iReady Practice Please login to i Ready. You should see a red button labeled, “start my lessons”. Please complete one Math and one Language Arts lesson. Thank you! In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Your student is welcome to bring slippers to keep in their cubby for when they come in from recess with damp shoes. Please be sure that your child brings a coat or jacket every day now that the snow is here. We go outside for every recess unless there is heavy rain. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks! Have a great week! Jenny |
