In Math we are learning about place value and using this knowledge to add 2 and 3 digit numbers. In Health we are Investigating Foods. In Science we are learning about why plants and animals live in some places but not in others. We will also be doing a science experiment with Marigolds. In Social Studies we are learning about Geography. Spelling List before born chore corn farm hard horse more part porch score smart Writing Assignment The theme of Unit 2 is “How can we work together?”. The question of the week is "How can we help each other in dangerous situations?”. This week we are reading Tara and Tiree, a story about a dangerous rescue. Please help your child think about the ways people work together in dangerous situations. Now have them write a narrative nonfiction (real information presented in the form of a story, told in chronological order) paragraph about rescue workers. Please have your child write 3-5 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you. CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure. (This is a description of the standards that the above writing assignment meets.) In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Thanks so much! Have a great week! Miss Jenny Hello Creekside Families,
Fall conferences will be the week of October 20th - 24th. Class will be dismissed at 12pm. No students may be left unattended after noon. Contact A+ and RAP if you need assistance with after school care. I will have a conference sign up sheet on the inside of the 2nd grade classroom door. Homework for the week of 10/6/14 Spelling This week we are reviewing all of Unit 1. There will be a spelling test on the words from throughout the unit. I will pick a few words from each week rather than testing on all of the 60 words we have learned so far. Please have your child review any words from the past few weeks that seemed tricky to them. Spelling tests have been handed back each week and can be a good study resource. You can also view the past weekly memos on the class website to find the original spelling lists. Thanks! Writing There is no writing assignment in the homework packet this week, instead there is a review sheet for each week of the past unit of study. Math We will be taking a math quiz on Unit 1 on Thursday and Friday. The math homework is all review in preparation for the quiz. Ed Performance This week our class will be taking Ed Performance tests in the afternoon to establish base lines on skill levels and help drive instruction. We hope to have the results back on time to share with you during our fall conferences. In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Thanks so much! > Have a great week! > > > Miss Jenny |
