I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend! I got to spend the day with my mom and family which was great! Save the date... our Souper Bowl celebration is coming up on May 31st. We will meet at OVL from 3:30-5:30 for a meal and student performances, then head back to school for our open house from 5:30-6:30. This is a chance to view some of your kid's amazing work AND check out next year's classroom. Miss Jessica is awesome! Kids will be able to paint bowls for the Souper Bowl this Friday, May 18th at Enrichment, forms for this will be sent home tomorrow.
This week in ELA we are learning about text features, informational text, and narrative text. In Math we are reviewing 3-digit subtraction. In Science we are learning about position and motion. In Social Studies we are learning about life long ago. In Health we are talking about friendly features. Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Sharks! We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. We continue to work on our Project Based Learning unit called Design a Lemonade Stand. We are also continuing our unit on Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute! This is an interdisciplinary unit that includes ELA, Music, Social Studies, and Art. We will also be learning about Monet and working on our own version of his Water Lilies series.

Writing Assignment
This week we are reading Sharks! as well as a few other non-fiction books about sharks. Please research a shark of your choice and tell me all about it. Be sure to include the name, size, habitat, and other interesting facts about the shark you chose to research. A picture or photo of your shark would be a terrific addition to your paragraph. Write at least 6 sentences and use your best handwriting on lined paper. Be prepared to share your knowledge about your shark with the class! Thank you
iReady Practice
Please login to i Ready. You should see a red button labeled, “start my lessons”. Please complete one Math and one Language Arts lesson. Thank you!
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
