Our third week of school is off to a great start! The kids seem to be settling back into school well and they often say they are happy to be here during morning our check ins and end of the day appreciation circles. That is something that I love to hear! I am really LOVING this class already! Thanks for sharing your great kids with me! :)
Tomorrow night is our back to school night event for parents only. We will be meeting in the classroom from 5:30-6:30 and will start promptly. We have an hour scheduled but I am sure I won't need that long to go over things, so I will bring in some cookies or something else delicious for us and we can just have some visiting time together. We will head over to OVI by 6:40 to listen to some announcements from Mr. Jeff. If you are unable to make it tomorrow night, just send me an email and I will save copies of everything for you.
This week in ELA we are learning how to write a summary, describe characters, describe connections between historical events, and learning about compound words. In Math we are working on "making a 10". In Science we are learning how plants make new plants. In Social Studies we are learning about rules and responsibilities. In Health we are learning about how we fuel our bodies and use our energy. Our SEL activities include Life Ingredients calming and focusing activities in order to work on our monthly SEL goal of self management.

Writing Assignment
This week’s writing prompt is “Tell me about your family”. Who is in it? (Yes, pets count!) Do you do anything special together? (My family loves to cook!) Please have your child write 4-6 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you. ( CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.)
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
