Let me start off this week's memo by letting you know that our Learning Period Conference for LP1 will be next Thursday, October 3rd. We will be meeting in the 5/6 classroom from 8:15-8:30. Please send your student to the 2nd grade classroom, there will be a teacher prepared to keep an eye on them while we have our brief meeting. Thank you.
We have some exciting news! Our Math Expressions workbooks and our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks have arrived! The kids were very excited to see them today and start working in them. In Math, we will be working with Math Mountains to show how addition and subtraction are related. In ELA, we are reading "Sailing in the Wind", a true story about the youngest boy to sail alone across the Atlantic Ocean. The students are learning to identify main ideas, details, and how to summarize what they have read. We are also working on Base Words and Endings (-s, -ed, -ing). In Science, we will be learning about clouds as well as making observations about the seasonal changes. In Social Studies, we will explore our particular region and resources available locally.
