Tonight, 9/18 at 5:30 pm is our rescheduled Back to School Night (adults only). We will meet briefly in our classroom to go over a few things, then have a go at an activity that we did in class the first week....the kids really want you to give it a try! I also have cookies! :) After our chat, we will meet with Mr. Jeff over at OVL at 6:10.
This week in ELA we learning about connections between scientific ideas, predictions, and writing complete sentences. In Math we are learning about odd and even numbers. In Science we are learning how plants are alike and different. In Social Studies we are learning about different types of sources. In Health we are talking about how physical activity helps our bodies. Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Edward the Emu by Sheila Knowles. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around these books all week long. We have also started our first Project Based Learning Activity on Snakes! Also, please be sure to check out your child's version on Van Gogh's Starry Night tonight! :)

Writing Assignment
This week’s writing prompt is: “Imagine you came home and there was an alligator in your bathtub! What would you do?” Your story should have a beginning, middle, and end. Please have your child write 3-5 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
