Things are moving right along in our busy classroom! I'm happy to report that we are starting to work as a team and learning a lot already. We have our classroom agreements in place and I am amazed at the kindness the students show for one another on a daily basis.
This week we are reading "Henry and Mudge", a fun story about a boy and his dog that go on a family camping trip. Today we made a character trait map of Mudge and we will spend the week learning how to identify characters, setting, and plot. We will have a special art and writing project based on this book that will be displayed in the classroom upon completion. We are also working on words with consonant blends. In math we are working on adding and subtracting two or three digit numbers as well as recognizing and counting coins. In science we are working on observations and what these observations can tell us about the world around us. Social studies has the students working in groups to read a short informational text and present it as a group to their class. This week we are reading and discussing "Get Ready for an Emergency", "Rescue Dogs", and "Helper Dogs".
This week's spelling list:

Practice/Homework packets were sent home today. As a reminder, new packets are handed out on Monday morning as I am collecting last week's packet. Please have your child practice writing their name at the top of every piece of their homework. Spelling tests will generally be given on Monday. If your student is on IS that day, we can arrange as makeup test when they return. One last request, please send a water bottle to school with your child. We do not have easy access to water fountains so having a bottle with them helps us all out a lot. Thank you!
Have a fantastic week!
