I just want to send a quick reminder to make sure you have sent in permission slips and payment for the field trip to see Wonderheads next Wednesday in Tahoe City. Every Thursday at Creekside we will be having a school spirit day. This week's theme will be twin day. This is strictly for fun and not required by any means. Please see the weekly Creekside Chat to stay updated on school spirit days and other important information.
This week in ELA we are learning about subjects and predicates, consonant blends, main ideas, and realistic fiction. In Math we are working with basic addition and subtraction problems, math mountains, and word problems. The kids have been doing well with this so far in class. I did notice last week that some of the kids should review some basic math facts. Please help them practice counting by 2, 5, and 10 at home as well as practice knowing their math doubles. (ex- 1+1=2, 2+2=4, and so on.) This will be a great help to them as we continue to work on math all year. In Science we are learning about what living things need to survive and in Health we are talking about food groups and healthy eating. In Social Studies we are learning about how communities can be different. We are also learning about Vincent Van Gogh and his famous painting, Starry Night. We hope to have some amazing art to share with you at Back to School Night.

Writing Assignment
The theme of Unit 1 is “What can we learn from exploring new places and things?”. The question of the week is “ What can we discover by exploring nature?”. This week we are reading Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night, a story about a family camping experience. Please help your child think about things that can be discovered in nature. Now have them write a realistic story about a child who discovers something outdoors. Please have your child write 3-5 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Thanks so much!
> Have a great week!
