Some important dates for you are below:
Tonight, 9/11 at 5:30 pm will be Back to School Night (adults only). We will meet briefly in our classroom to go over a few things, then have a go at an activity that we did in class last week....the kids really want you to give it a try! I also have cookies! :) After our chat, we will meet with Mr. Jeff over at OVL at 6:10.
Wednesday, September 13th will be the 2nd grade picture day at 8:45. Please send in your picture order forms ASAP. Thank you!
IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM THE OFFICE: Please do NOT send your child to school in flip flops. There have been several kids in the office today with hurt feet from rocks or splinters. All students should wear close toed shoes to school. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are learning about connections between historical texts, compound words, and describing characters. In Math we are working with making a 10 to solve addition and subtraction problems. In Science we are learning about how plants make new plants. In Social Studies we are learning about how to be a good citizen. In Health we are learning about how our bodies use energy. Our Rooted in Reading books this week are Sheila Rae and Chester's Way by Kevin Henke. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around these books all week long. Also, be sure to check out your child's version on Van Gogh's Starry Night tonight! :)

Writing Assignment
This week’s writing prompt is “Tell me about your family”. Who is in it? (Yes, pets count!) Do you do anything special together? (My family loves to cook!) Please have your child write 3-5 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
Jenny
