We have our last field trip this Thursday, June 4th. We will be joining the 1st grade class on their trout releasing adventure. We will be gone from 9-2:30. We will be at the lake access at the Gatekeeper's Museum, the nature trail, and Common's Beach. Please send sunscreen, lunch, and water to school with your student. Thank you to Michelle Miller, Ingrid Schaefer, Kerri Bradley, Adam Sanford, and John Crus for agree to drive and chaperone this event! Please be sure to read the Chat to find out more information about our potluck tomorrow to meet our new director, Jeff, and for more end of the year information. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are learning about paragraphs, prefixes (mis-, mid-), cause and effect, and narratives. In Math we are reviewing one and two step word problems for both addition and subtraction. In Science we are talking about energy safety. In Social Studies we are talking about how America is a "melting pot" of many cultures. We are also working with finding items on maps. We also have some fun art projects this week!

Writing Prompt
The theme of Unit 6 is “Are traditions and celebrations important in our lives?”. The question of the week is “How are traditions and celebrations shared?”. In Uncle Peter’s Amazing Chinese Wedding, a young girl feels neglected when her favorite uncle gets married. Please help your child think about big changes that happen in families. Now have them write a realistic story about a family member experiencing a big change. Please have your child write 6-8 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Thanks so much!
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
