The Souper Bowl was an amazing event! Thank you to all who helped make it such a success. The kids couldn't stop talking about how much fun they had....and about the wonders of the dessert bar! Don't forget...this Thursday the class will be off campus from 11 am- 1 pm to take a field trip to the KZM Science Festival at the Truckee Airport. Also, please look for the 2 permission slips coming home with the homework packets today and send them back to me ASAP. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are working with base words and endings (-s, -es, -ed, -ing, -er, -est) and with using context clues to figure out unfamiliar words. We are also learning how to categorize, classify, monitor, and clarify. In Math we are learning how to add three and four lengths together to find the perimeter of an object. In Social Studies we will be working on map skills and in Health we will be learning about how exercise can help us do better in school. In Science we are still working on our terrariums, this week we are learning about worms!

Writing Prompt
The overall theme for Unit 6 is “Are traditions and celebrations important in our lives?”, with this week’s theme being “What traditions and celebrations involve our country’s flag?”. This week we are reading Red, White, and Blue, which tells the history of the American flag. Help your child think about other American symbols and traditions. Now have them write about one of those symbols or traditions. Please remind your child to use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
CCCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
CCCSS Language 3- Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.
*Please keep your student at home if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
