I want to thank you all SO much for all of the wonderful gifts you and your children gave to me last week! I can't believe how much you spoiled me and I'm very touched by your kindness. On that note, the teachers and aides are holding a special parent appreciation luncheon this Thursday, May 15, from 11:45 to 12:45 at the school to show our thanks to all of you. I hope to see you there!
This week in ELA we are studying common syllables (-tion, -ture, -ion), drawing conclusions, summarizing, commas, and synonyms. In Math we are preparing for our Unit 7 quiz on arrays, rows, columns, equal parts (halves, thirds, fourths), adding on a number line, and adding multiple numbers together. In Science we continue to work with the terrariums and we will also be studying systems. In Social Studies we will be working on map skills and geography. We continue to work on our handwriting skills with our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks.

Writing Prompt
The overall theme for Unit 6 is “Are traditions and celebrations important in our lives?”, with this week’s theme being “Why are family celebrations special?”. This week we are reading A Birthday Basket for Tia, a story about a child finding the perfect present for a favorite aunt. Think about family celebrations. Now write a story about a character who is planning a family celebration.
CCCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
CCCSS Language 3- Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.
*There seem to be a few bugs going around town so please keep your student at home if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout the rest of the school year. Thank you!
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
