It feels like Spring may finally be here at last! Please be sure to send a full water bottle to school with your child every day. If they need suntan lotion, please apply it to them before they come to school. The sun was very hot today and we have lots of pink-cheeked and thirsty kids! Thank you.
This week in ELA we are working on writing narrative paragraphs, literal vs non-literal, figurative language, and similes. In Math we are working with addition and subtraction in word problems. In Science we are learning about Earth's resources. In Social Studies we are learning about resources and choices. In Health we are learning about "The Me I Like". Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Catching the Moon. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. We continue to work on our interdisciplinary unit of study on Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute.

Writing Assignment
This week we are reading Catching the Moon: The Story of a Young Girl’s Baseball Dream. This book is based on the childhood of Marcenia “Toni Stone” Lyle Alberga (1921–1995), an African American girl who grew up to become the first woman to play for an all-male professional baseball team.
This week’s writing prompt is: What sport do you like to play the most? Why do you like it? What is the best part about playing that sport? Write at least 6 sentences and use your best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
iReady Practice
Please login to i Ready. You should see a red button labeled, “start my lessons”. Please complete one Math and one Language Arts lesson. Thank you!
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Your student is welcome to bring slippers to keep in their cubby for when they come in from recess with damp shoes. Please be sure that your child brings a coat or jacket every day now that the snow is here. We go outside for every recess unless there is heavy rain. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
Jenny
