This week in ELA we are working with the vowel sound /oo/ (as in moon) spelled with -oo, -ue, -ew, and -ui. We are also working with words that have more than one meaning, adverbs, and narrative nonfiction. In Math we are working with time and picture graphs. In Science we are learning about Energy and in Social Studies we are learning about Families and Trade. We continue to work on our handwriting skills with our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks.

Writing Prompt
The question of the week is “How do changes in the weather affect us?”. This week we are reading Helen Keller and the Big Storm. In this story, a powerful windstorm whips across the countryside. Please help your child think about a storm they have experienced or heard about. Now have them write a narrative telling about that experience. Please remind your child to use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
CCCSS Writing 3- Writing narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
CCCSS Language 3- Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.
* I have been informed that the CA Department of Health has issued a statewide severe influenza alert, please keep your student home from school if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the winter weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
