Happy St. Patrick's Day! I'd like to start off this memo by reminding you to read the snippet every Monday to stay up date on our school and the upcoming Souper Bowl on Sunday, May 4th at 1:30 pm at the North Tahoe Events Center in Kings Beach. The link is here: http://media.wix.com/ugd/77f062_d6167f78d7924453a8a96ed8b6df519d.pdf. I'd also like to remind you that Spring Conferences will be the week of March 24th. The sign up sheet is on the door in our classroom, please be sure to sign up. School will get out at 12 noon all that week. Miss Camille asked me to let you know that there will be NO homework club from 12- 2:30, so please be sure to make arrangements to pick up your child by noon as there will be no supervision available for them. Thank you.
This week in ELA we are studying suffixes (-ly,-ful,-er,-or,-ish) and pronouns. We are also working with considering main ideas, details, and prior knowledge when reading a text. This week we are focusing on narrative non-fiction. In Math we are still in unit 5 and working with graphs and word problems involving information found in graphs. In Social Studies and Science we are finishing up our Scientists and Inventors unit. The students began their invention presentations today and they were amazing! They had some wonderful ideas and everyone was incredibly engaged in the presentations. Many of the students focused on projects to help the environment, these kids are out to save the world!

Writing Prompt
Unit 5 explores “What does it mean to be responsible?”. The question of the week is “Why should we be responsible for doing a good job?”. This week we are reading Firefighter!, a true story about firefighters putting out a fire. Please help your child think about other community workers and have them write a narrative telling how one of those workers performs a job. Please have your child use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
CCSSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
CCCS Writing 5- With guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing.
* I have been informed that the CA Department of Health has issued a statewide severe influenza alert, please keep your student home from school if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the winter weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
