I like to start off by reminding you all about the Round Table Meeting tomorrow night at OVI. Please see the Snippet for more information. We would love to see you all there. Childcare will be available with the MUN kids, you can sign up for childcare via the Google Doc linked to the Snippet. (http://media.wix.com/ugd/77f062_b233de66cf8449268866b2f8199c066b.pdf)
As you know, Valentine's Day will be upon us shortly. You will find a class list below in case your child wishes to bring in Valentine's Day cards for his/her friends. Please remember that candy is not allowed at school. We will be having a short party from 1:15-1:55 on Thursday afternoon. Michelle McCay-Moran has graciously volunteered to coordinate the festivities. Please contact her if you would like to send in some healthy snacks or games for Thursday. ([email protected]) Thank you!

This week in ELA, we are working with the vowel dipthong /ou/, spelled with ou or ow. We are also working with graphic sources and organizers, context clues, adjectives that compare, and expository non-fiction. In Math we continue to work with addition and subtraction (within 100 and with regrouping) word problems. In Science we are studying rocks and soil and in Social Studies we are practicing kindness and social skills by observing the Random Acts of Kindness week. Today alone, the kids performed over 26 acts of kindness outside of our classroom! We aim to improve that number daily. The kids have really embraced this project and I am so proud of them!

Writing Prompt
The big questions for Unit 4 are “How do things change?” and “How do things stay the same?”. This week’s question is “What changes occur under the ground?”. This week’s reading, Soil, tells us about how different kinds of soil are formed. Help your child think about what they have learned about soil from the class reading. Now have them write a description of the soil in your neighborhood. Please have your child write 5-7 sentences on lined paper in their best handwriting. Thank you. Please see below for more information on this writing prompt.
(CCSS Writing 2-Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.)
* I have been informed that the CA Department of Health has issued a statewide severe influenza alert, please keep your student home from school if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the winter weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
