Thank you to all of you who came in for today's LP5 meeting. If you were unable to attend and have yet to reschedule with me, please email me a time this week that would work for you to come in. We have several papers that need to be signed. I also received new Master Agreements this afternoon (because of the change from trimesters to semesters) that need to be signed ASAP. Unfortunately, I did not have them in time for this morning's meeting so I need to ask you all for just a couple minutes of your time at drop off or pick up to sign them. I really appreciate your help in this matter, thank you!
This week in ELA we are working with syllables (consonant + le), prefixes, adjectives, story structure, and realistic fiction. In Math we are working with addition and subtraction word problems and revisiting Math Mountains. In Science we are studying What Things Are Made Of and in Social Studies we are studying American Cultures. We continue to practice with our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks.

Writing Prompt
We are now beginning Unit 4 with the overall theme of “How do things change? How do they stay the same?”. This week’s question is “How do familiar things help us with changes?”. Our story this week is The Quilt Story. In this story, a quilt undergoes changes as the girl who owns it grows and changes. Have your child think of something they treasure. Now help them write a realistic story about how something familiar makes things better for a child. Please have your student write 5-7 complete sentences in their best handwriting on lined paper. After they write the story, please look it over for any spelling mistakes and help your child make any corrections needed. Thank you.
* I have been informed that the CA Department of Health has issued a statewide severe influenza alert, please keep your student home from school if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the winter weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
