Wow! It's hard to believe that this Friday marks the end of the 1st semester! We will need to sign our Master Agreements for the 2nd semester next week, so please stay tuned for more information on this over the next day or so. Thanks!
Please note that while the homework packets that were sent home mention online iReady work, we still haven't done the mid year assessments, so students should NOT do any online iReady work this week. Thank you!
Just a reminder, this is the time of the semester when I ask parents to email me a photo of your student engaged in a physical activity as a PE work sample. This can be a photo of them skiing, snow boarding, hiking, doing gymnastics, etc... If you haven't done so already, please email the photo by the end of the week. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are learning how authors use reasons to support their ideas and how to use commas. In Math we are learning how to use estimate length. In Science we are learning about using Earth's resources. In Social Studies we are learning about rules and responsibilities. In Health we are learning about what to do in case of a fire emergency. Our SEL activities this week include using our internal guidance system to make better choices. Our Rooted in Reading books this week center around Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around Dr. King all week long. We are also finishing up our work on our PBL (project based learning) entitled Design a Ski Resort which is a project that hits multiple standards for English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, and STEM.

Writing Assignment
The writing prompt this week is: “What are some of the animals that you might see during the winter that you wouldn’t see any other part of the year?” If you’re not sure that you’ve seen any animals in the winter, make up a story in which you see your favorite North Pole animals (like arctic wolves, ring seals, and polar bears) walking through your backyard! Please write at least 6 sentences and use your best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
