I hope you all had a wonderful Fall Break! The kids were all so happy to be back together today, it was really cute! As you know, as reward for for being the class with the most people dressed up for Halloween, the 2nd graders won a pizza party. The pizza party will be this Wednesday, the 3rd, at lunchtime. Please be sure to still send in a water bottle and snack for your student.
This week in ELA we are working with long e (-ee, -ea, -y) words, verbs, comparing and contrasting, and animal fantasy. In Math we are working with 3D shapes and measuring using centimeters and inches. In Science we are learning about science safety and how plants and animals survive in the desert. In Social Studies we are learning how to be good citizens and about how people use our environment. We are also working on a fun "Me on the Map" art activity. In Health we are learning about how to stay healthy and safe.

Writing Prompt
The theme of Unit 3 is “What does it mean to be creative?”. The question of the week is “When does support from others help with a creative idea?”. Two friends create a robot in Pearl and Wagner, Two Good Friends. Please help your child think about how others help with creative ideas. Now have them write a fantasy about animals who create something together. Please have your child write 4-6 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
Features of Animal Fantasy
* Characters act like humans and do things that animals cannot do in real life.
* Though the setting is not real, it may be similar to a setting in the real world.
CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure. (This is not a separate assignment, it is a description of the standard the above writing prompt meets.)
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Thanks so much!
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
