I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend! I spent a little time in San Francisco and had a great time at the Ferry Building and at the beach. The kids had lots of fun sharing their stuffed animals and showing off their jammies at circle time this morning. It was very cute! Our LP5 conference will be next Monday at 8:15 am in the second grade classroom. These meetings are mandatory, please email me if you cannot make the meeting and need to reschedule. Thank you.
This week we are reviewing Unit 3 and gearing up for our Unit 3 Spelling Test next Tuesday. We have had great success using flash cards for learning our spelling words. The kids make them in class and put them in their backpacks to study at home. Last week 17 students scored 100% and the rest of the students showed an overall improvement! There is no writing prompt this week as I am sending home more ELA worksheets than usual as a result of the Unit 3 review. They are all review sheets so they should not be too time consuming. In addition to the ELA work, there are 3 Math worksheets and a Reading Log in the homework packet. In Math we are working with subtraction and regrouping/borrowing. In Social Studies we are learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. and working with the Weekly Study called Celebrate America (famous people and National landmarks). In Science we are working with Share the Earth (natural resources and conservation.) The homework packets are due on Monday, January 27th. Thank you!

* I have been informed that the CA Department of Health has issued a statewide severe influenza alert, please keep your student home from school if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the winter weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
