It is hard to believe that we are almost done with the first semester! Time flies when you are having fun! Please be sure to read the Snippet for school updates. We are getting very low on cleaning wipes and Kleenex in the classroom during this flu season, please send some in to the classroom if you can. It would be very appreciated! Thank you!
This week in ELA we are learning about reverse phonemes (pot/top), comparative endings (-er, -est), cause and effect, using prior knowledge, synonyms, and biographies. In Math we are working with multi-digit subtraction methods and word problems. In Science we are learning about Habitats and in Social Studies we are learning about Presidents and Patriots. We continue to work on our handwriting skills with Handwriting Without Tears.
Writing Prompt
We are reading A Weed is a Flower, which is about the life of George Washington Carver, a creative inventor. Please help your child think about where we get our creative ideas. Now have them write a short biography about someone who had a creative idea. (A biography tells about the life of a real person. Ex- Abraham Lincoln, Louis Braille, Thomas Edison, etc...) Please have them use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.

* I have been informed that the CA Department of Health has issued a statewide severe influenza alert, please keep your student home from school if they are not feeling well. We are being extra careful at school about keeping our desks clean and washing our hands often. Hopefully we can all stay as healthy as possible throughout this upcoming flu season.
I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the winter weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. Thank you all for your cooperation in these matters.
Have a great week!
Miss Jenny
