It's hard to believe we are almost at the end of LP3 and our first trimester! Time flies when you are having fun! Our LP3 conference is scheduled for next Monday, November 18th from 8:15-8:30 in the 2nd grade classroom. Please be on time as we start class at 8:30. Learning Period conferences are mandatory, please let me know via email if you can't make it and we can figure something out. I will also be speaking to you at that time about an upcoming field trip to a Creole and Cajun music concert in Tahoe City on December 12th. We WILL need drivers! Please let me know if you have been fingerprinted and are able to drive that day (9:15-1 or so). In other news, our class pictures have been rescheduled for this coming Thursday morning, so please dress your student accordingly should you have a special outfit you would like them to wear.
This week in ELA we are working on comprehension skills such as comparing and contrasting information. In phonics we are working with the long a sound (a, ai, ay), and words with Syllables V/CV (open). Our question of the week is "How can we work together to solve problems?" and the weekly writing prompt is "How do animals work together?". Please help your student write 4-6 sentences on this question. In Math we are working on word problems that involve adding coins and working with problems that are adding 3 and 4 addends. In Science, we are talking about "Living Things" and "Plants". In Social Studies we are learning about "Explorers". We also continue to work in our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks.

I have some exciting news to share....12 out of 21 students got a score of 100% on this week's spelling test! We made flash cards again today for our current spelling list and they were sent home today. Please help your child practice them every day, I think it really helps them and makes a great difference. As always, please send a water bottle to school with your child every day (they can keep it in their desks) and make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the ever changing weather. Thank you!
Have a wonderful week!
Miss Jenny
