Writing Prompt- Mini Biographies
This week we are working on mini biographies. Please have your child research a famous person they are interested in. They can use books, magazines, newspapers, the internet, etc… for their research. After they gather their research they should complete their report form and art project. Your child can chose to make a bottle doll or a biography paper quilt. Please see the biography worksheet in this packet for more information. Students will be sharing their work with the class and should be repaired to talk about the person they chose. Thank you!
iReady Practice
Please login to i Ready. You should see a red button labeled, “start my lessons”. Please complete one Math and one Language Arts lesson. Thank you!
Biography Report
You are going to learn about a famous person of your choice and then do a project. First, you will chose a famous person to study and read about them. You can find information on your person in books, magazines, newspapers, or online, the choice is yours. Next, you will fill out the biography report form in your best handwriting. Finally, you will use the information you learned to complete an art project to share in class. You have a choice between 2 projects, the project you choose is up to you!
Written Biography and Bottle Doll
If you choose to make a bottle doll: You will need to fill in the book report form to go along with it. To create the bottle dolls of your famous person, use a 2 liter bottle for the body (fill it part way with sand or rocks to keep it from tipping over), a foam ball for the head, and other art/craft supplies for the decoration.
Biography Quilt Squares
If you choose to make biography quilt squares, you will NOT need to fill in the attached questions to turn in. Your quilt square project will have all of that information on it, so there is no need to write a written report. I suggest you use the attached questions to help you organize your thoughts before creating the quilt squares. Your quilt should have at least 9 squares, each with information about your famous person. Here are some ideas for you:
*Explain what this person is most known for.
*3 interesting facts about this person.
*Include a picture or draw an illustration of this person.
*This person’s name, date of birth, date of death
*Where did this person live?
*Where did you find your information?
*Why did you choose this person?
*Important events in this person’s life.
* Your favorite thing you learned about this person.
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Thanks so much!
Have a great week!Miss Jenny
