We ha a wonderful first day in our new classroom! The kids and I were tremendously happy to be in such a beautiful location and to have so much more room from where we were until recently. The kids all have desks which they have been asking for since Assessments so they were extra happy about that. It is also so nice to be with the other half of our school family, SVP. We have a few things to sort out still at the new facility but I have no doubt that this whole venture will be a great success for all!
This week in ELA we are reviewing all 5 chapters from Unit 1. There are no new spelling words to send out, we will be reviewing all the past spelling words from this unit instead. The spelling list containing all 5 chapters was sent home in the homework packet today. Please review them with your student. We are also reviewing synonyms, subjects, predicates, character, setting, plot, sequencing, categorizing, friendly letters, and personal narratives. It's a busy week for us, but the chance to review all their new skills from the last unit is so important. In Math we are spending the week working mostly on word problems. The students read the problems aloud, determine if the problem is asking for addition or subtraction, draw a picture of the problem, write the problem as a math mountain or number sentence, and then solve using the appropriate label. For example, "5 bikes", rather than simply "5". In Social Studies, we are reviewing our class agreements, as well as determining our new roles, rules, and practices for our new school. We are also discussing our impact upon the lovely surroundings and new neighbors (man and beast). In Science, we have planted some seeds to put in our new sunny window and we hope to see some growth despite the cooling weather. We are also observing the natural habitat around us.
As a final note, please be sure to send your children to school with both a coat/jacket and a water bottle! I also understand from Luke G's dad, that the kids were so well behaved at Enrichment last week that they earned a pizza party. He plans to bring by some pizza to celebratethis Thursday. Please still be sure to still send a snack and maybe even a lunch for Thursday as I don't know just how much pizza is being ordered.
Thank you all for your support and hard work as we settle in to our new school home. Have a great week!
