I just want to remind you all that next week (October 21-24) students
will be dismissed at noon as we are holding our Fall Conferences. The sign up sheet is on the inside of the 2nd grade classroom door. We have scheduled Back to School Night on October 24th from 5:30-6:30pm. Parents will have the chance to come in and see our
classroom, including some of the things the students have created. We will also discuss classroom routines and policies. It is a great chance for all of us to come together as a group. I will have volunteer sign ups that night for those who have been fingerprinted with Creekside this year. This night is for parents only. Homework packets for the week were sent home today along with information about Class Picture Day. More details on the dates and times will be in the Snippet. I will also contact you with further information as I receive it.
This week in ELA we are beginning a new unit with the over all theme of helping others. This week's story is called Tara and Tiree, Fearless Friends. It is a story of how two heroic dogs save their owner from drowning. We previewed the story today and the students were very excited to read it. We are also working on r-Controlled words (ar, or, ore, oar), and syllables VC/CV. In Math we are continuing to work at solving and creating word problems. In Science, our Science Studies Weeklies have arrived and this week we are working on Welcome to Science (Students learn that scientists learn by observing and doing.) and The World of Science (Students learn about common scientific tools and why it is important to describe things accurately and compare observations with others.). In Social Studies, we will be reading "How Full is Your Bucket?" and discuss how the way we relate to others has an effect on every aspect of our lives and the lives of those around us.

I am looking forward to another great week in our new classroom and gorgeous environment. We are still waiting on a few more things for our classroom but we are making it more our own with each passing day. I'd like to remind you to send in the rest of the classroom supplies (that were posted on the Creekside page at the beginning of the year) as you can do so. We are especially in need of bleach free wipes at this time. Also, if any of your students have kid scissors that they can use at school, that would be a great help to us in the classroom. As a final note, please be sure to send your student to school with a coat/jacket and a water bottle every day. We have a water cooler in the classroom, however we do not provide cups. Students may fill their bottles as needed. Thank you so much!
Have a wonderful week!
Miss Jenny
