Thank you to our volunteer drivers/chaperones for joining us today for our trip to the Humane Society. The kids loved it! There are lots of cute dogs and cats looking for homes so if you are thinking of adding to your family, please consider visiting the wonderful staff and animals at the Truckee Humane Society. They can also use donations of unopened dog and cat food for their pet pantry. I am happy to take any donations over to them if you would like to donate anything. Thank you!
Our fall conferences will be the week of October 24th. I have a sign up sheet on the inside of our classroom door. Please swing by sometime this week or next to sign up. We will meet for about 15 minutes to go over iReady results and areas of strength and growth for your child. I also love just getting a chance to visit with the parents and get to know them better! :)
This week in ELA we are learning to recount stories, working with proper and common nouns, and using descriptive language to enhance our writing. In Math we are adding 2-digit numbers. In Science we are learning about weather. In Social Studies we are learning about explorers. In Health we are learning about the balance between what we eat and the energy we need for our bodies. Our Rooted in Reading text this week is I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this story all week long.

Writing Assignment
This week’s writing prompt is: Imagine you had a pet monster that went on vacation. Where would it go? What kinds of things would it do? Tell me all about it. Please have your child write 4-5 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
iReady Practice
Please login to i Ready. You should see a red button labeled, “start my lessons”. Please complete one Math and one Language Arts lesson. Thank you!
In closing, I'd also like to remind you that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Your student is welcome to bring slippers to keep in their cubby for when they come in from recess with damp shoes. Please be sure that your child brings a coat or jacket every day now that Fall is here. We go outside for every recess unless there is heavy rain. Thanks so much!
Have a great week!
Jenny
