Thank you to all who were able to join us for Back to School night last Thursday! It was wonderful to get a chance to chat with you and show you some of the fun projects the class has been working on. 2nd grade picture day will be on Tuesday, September 25th from 11-11:30. Makeup pictures and the whole school photo will be taken on October 2nd. Please send in your picture order forms as soon as possible. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are describing connections between scientific ideas, working with complete sentences, and learning how to make predictions based on clues from the text. In Math we are working with odd and even numbers and using our doubles and doubles+1 facts. In Science we are learning how plants are alike and different. In Social Studies we are learning about different types of sources. In Health we are talking about physical activities. Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Edward the Emu. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. We are also starting our first PBL project (Project Based Learning) entitled Bats of the World. This project will be completed over the course of several weeks.

Writing Assignment
This week’s writing prompt is: “Imagine you came home and there was an alligator in your bathtub! What would you do?” Your story should have a beginning, middle, and end. Please have your child write 3-5 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
(CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.)
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
