I hope that you all will be able to join us this Thursday evening for Back to School Night. We will meet at 5:30 in our classroom to go over a few items, learn about our curriculum, and play a STEM game. We will then head over to the village to hear from Mr. Jeff and the PTO at 6:30. I will have a map to help you find your way over. Back to School Night is a parent event only, please try to find a sitter for your children if at all possible. Thank you!
This week in ELA we are learning to describe connections between historical events, how to summarize a text, and using compound words. In Math we are working with the "make a ten" strategy. In Science we are learning how plants make new plants. In Social Studies we are learning how to be good citizens. In Health we are talking about energy expenditures. Our Rooted in Reading books are Sheila Rae, the Brave and Chester's Way. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around these books all week long. We have also begun learning about Van Gogh and are working on our own version of his Starry Night.

Writing Assignment
This week’s writing prompt is “Tell me about your family”. Who is in it? (Yes, pets count!) Do you do anything special together? (My family loves to cook!) Please have your child write 3-5 sentences and use their best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
(CCSS Writing 3- Write narratives in which they recount a well elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.)
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
Jenny
