Just a reminder that all students should come to school prepared for the ever changing spring weather. Sending in a coat or sweatshirt this week might be a good idea if we get the rain/snow they are forecasting! If your student needs sunscreen, please apply that at home before coming to school. Also, please be sure to send in a water bottle with your student! Thank you!
If you haven't done so already, please be sure to send in the 2 field trip permission slips that went home the week before last. They should be filled out and returned with the $ ASAP. I must have all permission slips and funds turned into the office by this Thursday afternoon. There is no charge for the Humane Society trip but there is a $6 fee per person for the farm trip. (They charge $6 for each student and chaperone/driver.) Also, we now have enough drivers/chaperones to make these trips happen! Thank you!.
This week in ELA we working on author's purpose and writing informational text. In Math we are reviewing how to add several 3 or 4 digit numbers. In Science we are learning about position and motion. In Social Studies we are learning about life long ago. Our Health lesson is entitled Oh! What is the matter with me? Our Rooted in Reading book this week is Fireflies. We will be working on all sorts of reading, writing, grammar, and art activities around this book all week long. We are also working on our Town Builder Social Studies activities, our cross-curricular unit on Mozart's opera (The Magic Flute), and a study of Monet's Water Lilies. We are also observing our class butterflies and ladybugs and documenting our observations. Our SEL activities this week center around the concept of observing rather than reacting and learning to always assume the best of others.

Writing Assignment
This week we are reading Fireflies, a book about a boy and his friends catching fireflies on a warm summer night. The magic of this book is found in how the author used exact and descriptive words that make it possible for the reader to visualize the scenes in the story. Write a story about an experience you have had (perhaps skiing, or at the lake, or in your favorite place) and use descriptive words to help me feel like I am there when I read it. Write at least 6 sentences and use your best handwriting on lined paper. Thank you.
iReady Practice
Please login to i Ready. You should see a red button labeled, “start my lessons”. Please complete one Math and one Language Arts lesson. Thank you!
In closing, please remember that students should be appropriately dressed for the weather and that ALL students need to have a water bottle to keep at school as we do not have cups to offer them should they be thirsty. If your child needs sunscreen, please apply it before they come to school. Just a refresher on our illness policy: If your child is sick, he or she must be fever free and free of vomiting for 24 hours before they may return to school. Thanks!
Have a great week!
Jenny
